Life in a fishbowl - Vonarstræti DVD

The film "Life in a Fishbowl" by director Baldvin Zophoníasson has been selected as Iceland's entry for the 2015 Best Foreign Language Oscar. The selection was made by an all members vote of the Icelandic Film and TV Academy.

Life in a fishbowl portrays three intertwined stories that take place in Reykjavik in 2006.  The drama tells the story of a single mother and call girl, a banker and a former writer turned drunk and whose lives intertwine in a surprising way.

Móri is a poet and a drunkard, battling with his past and searching for forgiveness for the unforgiveable.

Eik, who is a young mother and nursery school teacher, moonlights as a hooker in order to support herself and her daughter. She has to struggle to make ends meet because she is utterly estranged from her extremely well-to-do family.

Sölvi is a famous former footballer who is making his way up the corporate ladder. Gradually, he becomes entangled in a world of corruption and moral complacency and bit by bit he starts to lead a double life.

This is Baldvin's second feature film. His first, Jitters form 2010, received widespread critical acclaim.

Two Icelandic films have previously been nominated in the Oscar race: Children of Nature by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson in 1992; and The Last Farm, by Rúnar Rúnarsson, was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film in 2006.
